Bloomsbury Square Makes – The Factory Dress by Merchant & Mills

All hail the new linens which have come in to Bloomsbury Square and which are now proving to be a big distraction.  Sigh, so many colours, so little time……

I just had to use the Rebecca Linen Dark Midnight Blue and after some time thinking it all through carefully, chose the Factory Dress pattern from Merchant & Mills. I really love the quality and style of their patterns.

As I made it up and did a rough fit, I realised early on, that I will be pestered by my family and friends for a version of their own, ( you know who you are!) so I copied out my size in baking parchment, to keep the original intact. I really enjoyed making it up. I tried out some interfacing which I haven’t used before and wanted to test. It doesn’t need very much, and I quickly decided that it’s not one for me; I still prefer the woven cotton which I have used for a while now. But nothing ventured and all that.

It all went together very easily and quickly, and as it is a very loose fit, there were no real issues with sizing. I used the high bust measurement; around the body above the bust, to pick my pattern size and it was just right. I would recommend that you check your bust size next and then make a bust adjustment if necessary and just check that waist and hip measurements will work for you also.  It is quite roomy. This way, you will get a nice fit.

The sunshine is out and I couldn’t resist letting my Factory Dress out into the fresh air for her photo in the spring sunshine. Thank you Merchant & Mills. I have a feeling she will see plenty of wear in the months to come………
